Changes to Optometry Medicare Rebates in 2015

Medicare & Private Health Funds

  • • From the 1/1/2015 medicare rebates for eye examinations will reduce by just under 5%.

  • • The medicare rebate will not increase until 2018. This means the rebate will remain unchanged while costs of providing quality eyecare continue to rise.

  • • Due to these changes Glebe Eyewear can no longer afford to bulk bill the majority of our patients. We will continue to bulk-bill patients on welfare benefits, unemployment benefits and students, according to the medicare guidelines.

  • • Other patients will be billed according to our fee schedule .

  • • Electronic medicare claiming will be available in our practice to assist patients to claim their rebates immediately. This will mean that the majority of patients will only be contributing $10-$15, towards the cost of the eye examination.
